Hi guys i was wondering if you could help me please!!

I've riding a 12 yo 15.3 arabx welsh grey mare who i'm hoping to do some ridden showing classes over the summer (after my exams) as well some jumping and dressage!

Now i can cope with jumping and dressage but for showing! - no idea!

She has a black elevator type bridle that we use for best (ish) tho i've only been riding her for a few months - and a black synthetic saddle- are these ok for local level showing??

Then what type of numnah? For PBA classes (to be judged as a riding horse) would she need a coloured browband?

And plaited? arab plait because she has her mane left natural?

And then theres me! Cream johdpurs, long boots, shirt and tie - and then is a blue pikeur dressage jacked ok? i dont really want to go out and buy a tweed one...! Black gloves? And can i use my bendy stirrups? bearing in mind they're the only ones i can really properly ride in due to rubbish excuses of knees?

Anything else??

This is jazz .... (excuse the hand position!)

Hi
I did PBA affiliated showing with my mare and this is what we had:
- Brown bridle with pelham and double reins (pelham pretty essential, bridle can be black)
- Brown synthetic saddle (can be black for local showing)
- Coloured browband would be good, for a grey silvers and blues are good
- Numnah that just fits the saddle or none at all

For you:
- navy velvet hat
- navy jacket
- Tie or stock
- Shirt
- Long brown boots preferably (black should be ok for local)
- Brown or cream gloves
- Would stick to plain stirups

Good luck, I loved the showing!!

Thanks... so i need to ride her in a pelham? you were doing affiliated though weren't you? Hmm i'd rather not though - shes a parelli horse - the whole stiffened rope thing/ knotted rope bridle (doesnt do it for me to be honest...) so she only used to be ridden in a bridle for dressage comps...

can't i use a snaffle?

And why brown boots? aren't long black ones ok?

I can wear a stock!! woo! does it have to be cream or can it be a funky colour?
Or is a tie more 'correct'?

My jacket has silver buttons - it that too 'bling' - navy ones better?

Black numnah??

And how about the plaiting issue! Cheers xxx

As a PBA I'm afraid she should have her mane pulled and then plaited conventionally.
As it's a local show you will get away with an arab plait but it's not correct.

She will also need a cavesson noseband on her bridle.

Yes, a pelham/double can give a finished look but if she's not used to one, it is better that she wears a snaffle and goes nicely.

Black long boots are the norm and no stocks, shirt and tie. Gloves can be brown, tan.......cream is a bit light.

Your buttons will be fine for the level you are showing at and a black numnah will also be fine, just make sure it fits the saddle and isn't too obvious.

Yes i thought tie! just someone said stock and i prefer them.. so tie!

Yep was going to wear black long boots - I had a look just now at all the tack she came with and did infact come with a pelham - but its a straight bar and very thin - so i'd like to get her something a bit nicer! I'll need a lipstrap won't i?

How about if (this is looking ahead to september time) we wanted to enter the romsey show - which is a bit bigger than a local show, smaller than a county - would my jacket still be ok then?

I'll see how her mane plaits - its quite thin so i am loathed to pull it short to plait it - might just try the plaits on it like that - how many should we aim for?

Thanks! Kat

I have a Purebred so I can't help with the plaiting I am afraid - I think I read somewhere they have to be an odd number... there are ways to plait to make their neck look bigger/smaller/longer etc...

Silver buttons are too bling.... I would either cover them (make little covers) or change them - you can buy blue fox head buttons from Derby House and other online shops. They aren't expensive and would make all the difference
