Could someone advise me, I have an Andalusian. Have showed him locally. I wore a hacking jacket & left him natural, but if I compete at larger shows, my dream! I know I wear dressage gear but do I leave him unplaited? Any advice welcome? Fancy tie pin, dressage whip or black cane, saddle cloth or no saddle cloth????

It will depend on what class you are showing him in. Spanish stallions 4 yrs and over are shown in hand unplaited if in a Breed class, Foreign breeds, World breeds, Iberian etc. Geldings the same. They are shown in a serreta with a long line and the handler carries a whip. At the BAPSH show and GBPRE they are shown the Spanish way, at other shows it depends on the ground conditions and the judge. There is a showing article in the recent BAPSH magazine, which you can purchase on the website, or join! There is also a BAPSH FB page where you can ask questions, even if your not a member.

Hello, thanks for your advice. You know what your talking about, he's 8 & the class will be Ridden Andalusian & Part Bred Andalusian, not traditional dress. What do you recommend? :)

If it's English ridden then mane in running plait, tail unplaited. Usually tack as for dressage with white numnah.

Each show usually has it's own rules on hats, so best to read the conditions of entry. Whips aren't allowed in the Functionality at the BAPSH show, but my mind's gone blank regarding English ridden!
