Can any one advise me how to turn out a trad coloured cob for in hand showing he is a 3 year old stallion? what do they look for? When he is 4 can he be shown under saddle as a stallion? Any ideas???
This is my t/o - I have a gelding. T/O is the same. In BSPA they don't allow side reins etc. Do check that you can bring a stallion as some local shows do not allow t hem.
At the moment all you can do is youngstock and open in hand classes until next January when he will the be classed as 4.
My chap is 4 this month and I have just started doing a few shows in the saddle. I could have started under the saddle from 1 January if I had wished to even though he is not 4 until now.
You can either go with a hard hat (which you should if showing a young stallion)
or a trilby
This is Chancer as a 3 year old in the BSPA Championship traditional youngstock final
We came third - first two were stallions and professionally produced so I was over the moon to get where we did with a gelding and complete novice amateurs.
Why not join BSPA or CHAPs as they really know what to look for in a traditional.
Make sure he is as clean as can be, you may trim the jaw but not whiskers or tash, and trim tufts from outside of ears, but not the inside. I also trim the bloomers and belly fringe. Mane, tail and feather should be long and free flowing.
Try to get a bridle with a flat noseband to show off his head.
