Hi, I have a trotter horse he is more cob breeding than he would have trotter but he has the pace that trotters have he is a lovely looking horse to me and I think he would do well in showing classes he's lovely marked ( he is skewbald ) but the only thing is he does pace he would pace when riding but I have found a way to get a nice normal trot what I do is I wait for him to trot properly before I rise and he will trot perfectly and I would do the same when coming back from canter but when he gets tired its a handling's hes just pacing think it might be easier for him but if I was to take him to a showing class and Trott him I'm worried people might think hes lame or mark him down because of the pace would they ?

I have a trotter, used to event him. Used to get pulled up after every single dressage test to be told he’s lame where I would have to explain the extra pace. They always understood but it was a bit of a pain. Never did well showing him.

The problem is part of showing is the horses way of going and there movement, the pacing will go against you in that respect, but maybe do a few low level local shows and see what response you get if it's something you do and enjoy it there is no harm in it, I have known a few trotters that over time with the right training stop pacing and a few learnt to canter very well, so maybe continue with your schooling and get a good instructor over the winter months then he might be so much better by the summer.
