Showing a Welsh D -Ridden - Advice please!

I have a Welsh D which I have started to do some local showing with this summer. So far he has only done inhand, but done well in all of his classes.

I am planning on doing a couple of ridden classes with him in a couple of weeks time......What bridle is correct for him to be shown in and what bit should be used? He is currently in a happy mouth loose ring snaffle.

Think those are my main questions but any other advice or experiences would be fab!

I am a showjumper and not used to this showing side of life!

You dont have to start of showing in a double or pelham especially if its only local level if your horse is not used to that kind of bit stick with what you are using for now so he is comfortable at the show,maybe try a pelham and see how you go, you may find to start with a young horse will back off a stronger bit so try riding him in one and play it by ear, most judges would rather see a horse going forward nicely in a snaffle and as you only have a few weeks it may not be enough time to get him used to it.

If you have never ridden with two reins or fitted this kind of bridle get an instructor or someone who knows how to use one as it can take some getting used to and most of all have fun and good luck.
 
If you are happier riding him in the snaffle then use the snaffle, and if doing novice classes you MUST use a snaffle.

Turnout wise then tweed and no spurs! :D
