Seeing as my riding horse is out of action for a while, I'm considering showing one of the section a's I have. Primrose had a nice dose of lice last autumn so her coat is a bit worse for wear, so thinking of taking Bronwyn.

I'm new to showing and welshies, so wondering what I need - an idiots guide?
I don't expect to win so no telling me she's a bug-eyed freak (I know she is but she's sweet :D) but just to have fun and have something to focus on and get this expensive trailer out and doing something!

So
1) Pony turnout - I assume she should be untrimmed/unpulled etc?
2) My turnout - I'm sure I read somewhere that you should wear trousers to highlight your ponies leg colour - so white socks, dark trousers?
3) What am I expected to do? Just walk and trot her round?

:D sorry for these questions in advance :D
Here's Bron (the one side on) *summer photos*

Thank you silverghost :) I think we will have fun, it'll be like carry on showing!

Heh they are so not innocent, they are always up to something. A real baptism of fire these two but they are lovely deep down. Will look to break them to harness once they are old enough!

ooh sounds fun keep me posted on how they do! :3

OMG they are gorgeous! Do you really need two? I'm sure one of them would like to come and live with me, I'm hankering after getting another welshie.....

You can have Beau!!!! I'll pay you to have him!! :D

Seriously, he will be looking for a new home soon. I just need to persuade my daughter to let him go first...

Going by what i have been told, you arnt aloud to plat the mane, You are aloud 1 plat behind the ear to show the head. The pony can wear a bridle if its a colt has to be bitted, How ever most are shown with white halters. *mine and my friends welshies dont seem to go forward what so ever with these so practice is the key!*

Your right about the trowsers, The guy who bred my section A...C thing (i think hes got it wrong he says hes a c...but he looks like an a foal lmao hes tiny!)

He wears full white at the royal welsh even if the horse has white socks. and has always done very well. so i guess it depends on the judge's prefrence like any show...

how ever im still looking in to it all my self :P

I wish!! I need to win the blooming lottery so that I can give up working in London, have my own land and stables and fill it with ponies. I'm sure my two mares would love to have a new little brother but my bank manager might have something to say about it....:(

They are pretty cute eh? But yes, sadly there's method to my madness, they keep each other company when Clover is being ridden/at livery etc.
You can have Clover though ;)

You can discreetly trim the jaw line and ears. I take wiskers of mine around the muzzle, Feather is left on but mane is pulled to looknatural but not to long. This is my Husband showing my little lad as a 2yr old. White halters are fine but you need control, You can wear trousers (not black) shirt and tie and either a waist coat or tweed jacket. Trousers need to be contrasting with legs, so dark for white legs, light for dark legs. Many Welshy handlers dont wear hats but I think it looks much smarter and more respectfull to the judge.

horrid horrid little things, i demand you send them to me right away!! lol

they are lovely, my sec a is known as the pony god mother, your likely to wake up with a horse head on your pillow if you piss her off lol, but deep down she is a very loving little lady, just has small pony syndrome, plus shes grey lol x

the most important thing is be prepared to run like the clappers! if you A is anything like my little sod then the second you get into the ring he goes into hyperdrive & bygod can he trot out nicely (shame about the huffing, puffing creaking thing attached to the lead rein!)

Want to do some showing with my sec a this summer, but her mane is like a soft frizzy bog brush! Is there some skill involved in pulling to look natural, or should i just attempt to solo comb it? (sorry to hijack your post OP!)

I very carfully used a solo comb to shorten and pulled to thin out but dont over do the pulling, just did a few hairs each day. I used conditioner on the mane, mane and tail sprey and hairspray and a stretch hoody to flatten it all down. Hoody was only used the night before a show. Believe me most of the time my boys mane was like bog brush!:)
This is a before pic:)
