Hi, i have a WPB yearling filly which i am showing this summer. Never had a WPB before either had full welsh or sports horses! What is a WPB and its handler supposed to wear!????

Depends what classes you are doing. If I'm going in sports horse or small hunter classes then its tweed and light coloured trousers, with either tweed or hard hat. If going to a breed show, then more towards a welsh in hand turnout, shirt tie, waistcoat trousers and running shoes. Obviously at breed shows you dont plait up. hope this helps.

sorry to disagree Cundlegreen, but all WPBR should be plaited when shown, including breed shows. You should turnout the same as Hunters, tweed, shirt & tie, trousers. Bridle to suit head.

If you look on the eastern welsh assoc schedules, it clearly states WPB should be shown unplaited.I agree that normally I would always plait, but you have to go with what is required in the schedule.

I have been showing WPBR for a number of years now, from local to county level including breed WPCS affiliated shows. I also organise 3 welsh shows a year, and not only have I always plaited, but seldom have I seen one forwarded un-plaited.

if your yearling is more of a hunter, chose a hunter bridle (leather brow) but if your yearling is more refined then chose a Riding Horse / Hack bridle (velvet brow)

one of my Large WPBRs is inbetween Hunter & RH infact more of a sporthorse. I decided her head was so plain I tried a brass browband & a proper inhand bridle & it really suited her & improved her head. So go with whats suits the horse & enhances her type, not just what you think they (judges) want to see.
