I use roundings on my pelham for SJ and XC, and a snaffle for everything else. Now I want to do some showing in the pelham, and do not know what reins to buy - plain, plaited etc etc and at what thickness?
Mine look like plain leather on the outside and then have grip on the side which is really good because last time i used plain reins (with a snaffle) she got over excited and they just slipped though my fingers. Even with gloves on!
what are you most comfortable with? 2 pairs of plaited reins could be too much in your hands - pressuming you want to ride with 2 reins. I have quite small hands, and used to have plain reins on the bottom and plaited on top. Just feel the reins in your hands when you buy them and see how they feel.
I show a native, in the open classes where we show in a double he has plaited reins on top and plain bottom reins. This is i'm assured the correct attire
plaited on the top rein.
thin plain rien on the bottom.
I tend to show my M&M with 2 plain reins but the bottom one is always thinner then the top one. I have tiny hands and have yet to find plaited reins that i can comfortably hold with double reins.
