Ah. Jodhs and jodh boots are correct for 16 and under. When I did in hand with my youngster at 14, I wore beige jodhs, jodh boots with elastic strap, shirt and tie and I borrowed a tweed jacket. Also for my age I had my hair plaited and had a velvet hat. Also dark gloves and carry a show cane.

Turnout for pony depends on type but for your Shetland a simple in hand bridle with a leather lead will do :)

Which classes will you be doing ridden?

Shetland ponies aren't allowed to be spotted so you will be showing him in Spotted/Appy classes, Coloureds at local level etc. I would wear beige, navy or black trousers to show him in. I hate jods and never wore them as of 14yo when I was showing. Haven't worn a hard hat since I was 16 either and it was no longer compulsory, I wear a Trilby when showing the Shetlands.

When riding a horse always wear long boots and breeches.

If your about to turn 16 then scrap the jods for in-hand showing. Your school trousers will be fine. The hard hat is entirely up to you if you wear it or not once you have turned 16, it is compulsory for under 16's.

Appy's are over 14.2, so shetlands are not able to show alongside them, although they do have classes for spotted ponies at the Northern Appaloosa show.
