Pony and I are off showing this weekend, we have one show on Saturday and one on Monday. Unfortunately poor Murphy has been repeatedly beaten up in the field over the last 2 weeks and is covered in cuts, scrapes, and little bald patches

Just wondering if him being a bit injured will matter for showing? I think I'll give the 'Best Condition' classes a miss (annoying - because other than the scrapes I think his condition is spot on at the mo

) but am planning to do:

Best Turned Out
RC Pony
Handy Pony
Senior Best Rider (I just enter that one to give everyone a laugh

)
Most Handsome Gelding
Best Mane & Tail

Will his wounds matter in those classes??

No, superficial cuts and scrapes will be fine, so long as he isn't bleeding, lame or uncomfortable.

Get some aloe vera on his cuts & scrapes to help them heal up.

They are all superficial - thank god he has big thick rhino skin!!

Have been putting aloe vera on

The older ones are healing up nicely, he just keeps getting new ones - very annoying!

hmmm depends on the judge really, (I'm just being honest) not so much in ridden classes but I think they may judge you down (even if they don't say so) a little bit in the inhand classes if he's got a few nicks and scrapes here and there.

But if you enjoy going anyway and do it for fun and practice then it doesnt matter in the slightest.

I think he's that handsome that even a few scraps wouldnt let him down, think it would if for example it was a TB though.

Good Luck, just take him!

Assuming this is a local fun type show rather than serious stuff.

Best Turned Out - possibly - if you are equal to another horse then the scabs etc do effect the picture of perfection which is what you are trying to achieve.

RC Pony - Should not do unless again you are equally matched

Handy Pony - Should not do - judged on how steady etc pony is rather than how beautiful and perfect they look.

Senior Best Rider (I just enter that one to give everyone a laugh ) - Nope, judged on the rider not the mount

Most Handsome Gelding - again possibly could if he is really looking as if he has been in the wars.

Best Mane & Tail - should not - unless his mane/tail has been ripped out

Hope he is ok - can you do anything about the beatings or is he the one that starts them?

Thanks for the advice guys

I'm doing it for fun and not bothered really if we get marked down for it, just don't want to get chucked out of the ring for having a wounder soldier pony!

I might have to try some boot polish on the bald patches...

he's fine - nothing serious, just doesn't look very pretty. nothing i can do about it unfortunately - it's because one of the mares is in season and some of the little ponies are getting a bit amorous and Murphy keeps getting in the way...he's such a numpty because it just doesn't occur to him that he might get kicked!
