I recently showed my Irish Draft in a cob/cob type class at a couple of very small local shows.
I got a lot of stick from one or two people saying I shouldn't take him in. I won all three classes so I assumed that the judge was happy with him.
There is an Open Cob class coming up in another show and I'm not sure whether or not I should go for it.
Does anyone else take Irish Drafts in Cob classes? Our local shows are small so there isn't a class for each size of cob here.

Some of Lynn Russells champion cobs are pure bred Irish Draughts! Why should one not compete?? As long as it a cob type and fits the profile, a cob is a cob no matter what it's' breeding.

Go for it and show off that ID

Precisely, by definition a cob is a horse with the appearance of a cob. If your horse looks like a cob, he is a cob

regardless of the fact that he is also an ID! If he fits the requirements then no problem.

For the record, I know of several Welsh Cobs that (hogged and de-feathered) have been very successful on the show cob circuit. Goes to show that it's not so much breed as appearance that matters.

A friend bought a registered Irish draught filly and it was shown in cob classes. It won several Championships and also did very well at the BSH &C Championships too, still is!
Go for it, a cob is a cob is a cob; don't let jealousy put you off and good luck.

sorry to be so slow coming back. He is 16.1 so he would be a maxi cob. But the classes are all cob/cob type or open cob.

Thanks very much for all your encouragement and support. I will carry on showing him.
There aren't any ID classes near me. He was shown in hand as a three year old and did quite well but by previous owners.
He is 16.1. I do show him in WH classes as well but now we're out of Novice I find the jumps a bit big! He doesn't!. I have taken him in a few Show Hunter classes but I've never done very well.
How big is your ID Murphybarr and have you got any pics I can see?
I'm going to try and attach some photos now.
