showing an unregistered dales??

Looking at the show schedule for local riding club and thinking of taking my unregistered dales cross pony. Was thinking unregistered m&m obviously, and maybe driving type. What else can we do? Can we do cob classes? What about whp or are we too chunky? Sorry if this sounds silly but have only shown twice in my life and had awful experience with negative judges showing seems to be such a Minefield, don't want to get it wrong
 
A picture might help us help you more, however as it's a local riding club show, the best way is to just try it! I would say cob class is worth a try and definitely WHP. Also Riding Club horse/pony.

So long as you're clean and well presented (don't worry over much about getting all the tack/equipment exactly right) and you go to experiment, have fun and enjoy yourselves, that's what matters.

So long as the show's you are doing are unaffiliated and local you'll probably be able to get away with doing M&M classes on him.

As he is not a registered pure bred he would not usually be eligible for M&M classes but as this is a fairly small show and they state unregistered M&M you can do it. You could do the WHP or the cob type class but you will probably find the cobs are hogged and trimmed.
 
I would only enter him in an unregistered m&m as he is unregistered. I thought OP was implying he wasnt m&m type. must have misread :)

I guess my question is as an example of type where would he be best placed? I have re-read the schedule and am thinking RC Pony and versatile pony could be possibilities?
 
Sorry if I confused you. At some shows you get part-bred classes which is what I thought you maybe meant by unregistered. At local level if the show is not affiliated to a society he will be fine in the M&M classes - no need to state whether he is registered or not. Not sure why you need to find any other classes, at local level he'll be fine in the M&M.

As a Dales cross he would not be eligible to do M+M classes, registered or not - sorry! He would be classed as a part bred, even if the other part is M+M too.

Driving type - usually in hand
Best Conditioned - in hand
Cob type ridden and/or inhand
Handsome Gelding - in hand
PC/Handy/Family pony - usually ridden
Novice Showing - ridden
Part/cross bred - ridden and/or in hand
Novice Handler - in hand
Heavy and Hairy - ridden and/or in hand
Best Turned out - usually ridden
Best Rider - ridden
Working Hunter - ridden
 
Perissa, have you looked at the pictures, at local unaffiliated shows that pony could do m&m, imo he looks dales enough to do it.
 
He's gorgeous, lexibell. Yes you can do m&m at local level, even if he isn't registered. Would also go with everything on Perissa's list. Not that I would recommend doing every class - poor boy would be kxxxxxxxd!!

As to the debate over him being m&m enough this is kind of my point with showing. IMHO hes M&M without question, obviously unregistered but still an example of type and I only say cross as I cant be sure exactly what he is as havent been able to contact breeder unfortunately. BUT it seems showing isnt that straight forward and perissa is prob technically right.

I think we will go and try not to take ourselves too seriously and see how we get on.

show is next sunday (1st) so will post my first show report on here then :eek: and we will see who was right :)

last few things - for inhand my mother has treated me to a beautiful hand made english leather in hand bridle in dark brown, with a flat and wide nose band (I think thats correct for a horse his type) and one of those fancy show leads rather than reins - im sure they have a proper name but no idea what it is. i have blue/grey tweed jacket with a blue tie and off white shirt. so think i'll be ok for the inhand stuff???

I am thinking of doing the working hunter and maybe riding club pony/versatile pony as ridden. should he be in a coloured showy browband for those classes? and what colour numnah??

sorry if i sound simple, i have owned horses for 20 plus years but honestly have no idea about this showing stuff, have always just stuck to SJ and hunter trials in the past.

I am going to hickstead this weekend and the OH has said he will treat me so shopping lists please :)

I have been judging M+M's for 25 years + so I was responding to the information that he is a cross so thank you for 'perissa is prob technically right. :)'

Your in hand turnout sounds perfect, try to wear lighter trousers to make it easier for the judge to see your pony's action (if he were light coloured you should wear dark trousers).

For WH and PC he should wear a plain leather browband, and a dark brown (if your tack is brown) or black numnah (no saddle cloths!).

A tip for the in hand walk away from the judge and trot straight back at the judge. He/she will move!! It is amazing how many competitors don't do this ;)
