I'm planning on doing a few veteran shows this summer and only have one bridle and saddle that are brown.

My question is I normally ride in a flash noseband - should I keep this on during a show or take the flash off which leaves the little loop in the middle of the nose? I really don't think I can ask my OH if I can have a new bridle at the minute!

Why not just buy a new noseband?

At local level I don't think it would matter too much if you used a flash... Should really be a plain cavesson though.

Flash nosebands are not normally acceptable in showing classes apart from workers classes. Leaving the flash loop would look messy, but you don't need to buy a whole new bridle, just buy a plain cavesson noseband.

I was hoping to get away without buying anything - will have to hide the plain nose band from OH!!

Does your horse need a flash? if your horse relies heavily on a flash you don't feel he would go as well in a cavason then don't change, unless you can practice going nicely at home/hacking etc in a cavason before your show, its all good and well looking pretty but if you horse is not performing well then you going to placed further down the line anyway, or you could warm up and quickly do a swap before you enter the class.

Agree you should be in a cavesson ideally, replace the nose band rather than taking the flash strap off, they look terrible and really spoil a horses head.

Good luck at your show and have fun!

Are you doing VHS qualifiers or just local level veteran classes.

If just local level I wouldn't worry too much just take your flash off - but it is not correct

You can get a new kinkade show bridle for £20 and they are perfectly satisfactory

If you are doing VHS qualifiers - then no do not do it! Get a new noseband at the very least - remember 40% of your marks are on condition and turnout and believe me 1 mark really can count.

More than happy to give you any other info regarding VHS turnout.
