showing and scars!

My daughter has just finnished pony club camp and her instructor has encouraged her to enter some working hunter classes. I have never thought her pony is suitable as he has a few scars but one very large one on his leg. It does not effect him in any way and is 100% sound its just unsightly. Will he get very far in this field?

yes, as there is lots of "make-up" that you can get that will cover up the scars. try some working hunter as it is great fun and doesnt have to last the whole day like an event at pony club! (that said, i still enjoy eventing as well as working hunter!) my pony has a splint but we are still winning and going to dublin in 2 weeks!

try some novice classes first, and then progress to open - also try some lessons with a showing rider, as they will help you and tell you what the judges look for.

any pony can go far in working hunter if they are trained correctly and jump well - its just practice!

Im not an expert in showing but i have a feeling that in working hunter the way the horse goes is more important. If it was show hunter it would probably be different.

Personally I would just have a go and see where it leads. There may be some judges who put you down for bad scars but I'm sure there are a lot that think if a horse actually does hunt it will have some battlescars.

Especially at local level.

thanks guys! i have always thought "showing" was a nonstarter. Will let her give him a whorl i the ponyclub show coming up. He is a beautiful mover so hopefully he will do well if he behaves!
