Evening all,

I posted a few days ago about competiting due to me never taking part in any competitions on my horse but im not interested in doing so next year. I have some more questions to ask! :)

I was told my horse and I could participate in show cob, veteran, riding horse and coloured horse etc (she's a coloured cob). I was curious as to what the different clothing attire for horse and rider would be for each of these classes? Are they just the same or would i need to have multiple outfits for if I participate in more than one of these classes?

Also will someone please explain the different levels of dressage to me. I am a total beginner on the competing topic as you can tell haha!

Thanks guys!

Pictures of my horse are on my profile or on a comment on my previous post (haven't learnt how to upload pics yet)

You would wear the same for all classes, tweed jacket, shirt and tie, cream/ beige jods, long black boots, brown gloves so no need to buy a different outfit, you can also wear exactly the same for lower levels of dressage.

The horse needs a plain set of tack, no bling and a discrete saddle shaped numnah, for dressage you can use a bling browband if you want and a white square is used by most people but is not essential.

Dressage, Intro is the 1st step, only walk and trot. 2nd is prelim which includes canter, then novice, elementary, medium, advanced medium, advanced, Prix St Georges, Inter 1 & 2, GP the top level.

For clarification of the lower levels:
Prelim includes the basic paces and 20m circles. Novice starts to add lengthening (medium trot and canter, just "show some steps" in most tests) and tighter shapes (e.g. 15m circles, 4-loop serpentine, shallow loops etc.), rein-back, a few strides of counter-canter. At Elementary, we get some basic lateral work, more consistent transitions within the pace, much more precise transitions. And the outline considered appropriate to each level also advances.

I have read around many websites and forums on this site trying to find out what I can get away for a Preilim 7 dressage competition. It's being held by my college so I would hope they would relax the rules a little. I don't know if that's how it works.
What I was wondering is if I could get away with beige jodhpurs and if I NEED to wear a show jacket (or if I could get away with just wearing a shirt and jumper with a tie).
I may be doing a dressage competition in a few weeks but I am rather new to the equine world so I am not sure about how these may work.

You need to ask the organiser, some places are more relaxed than others and want to encourage newcomers, others stick to the "rules" and make no concessions, beige jods are fine whatever else you wear, a shirt and tie is also fine and you may be able to borrow a jacket for the test.
