showing attire help

hi all

i have a buckskin filly whom i will be showing this year and am hoping to qualify for some county shows.

now what do i wear

she has 3 white legs and two out of four being very mottled

i was thinking
navy trousers
jodphur boots under neath

a waist coat- but which colour to go with her- red or yellow or purple
( that will be long enough to wear under a cut away jacket in future)

and some gloves

any help would be appreciated

I have an all navy outfit that I wear when I show my buckskin.


Make sure you can run on grass if it's wet in your johd boots without slipping as you made need boots with more grip.

She's cute Navy sounds fine, I'd go for red waistcoat - just personal pref really, think it goes together with navy and looks nice with buckskin, brown gloves, and as tabithakat said good shoes you can run in easily

What classes are you putting her in? This will make a difference to the turnout you have.

I would show her with light coloured trousers as she has dark legs - beige is a favorite, with a tweed jacket - waistcoats are more seen on the M&M types, though I wear one under my jacket when it is freezing. Gloves must be brown, shirt can be any colour but white, cream and yellow being the most popular, ditto the tie, get something to compliment the shirt and jacket but again white and black are not used. Tie pin finishes the picture.

You will need a hat. Many youngstock classes now insist you wear a hard hat, but if they don't you can also wear a trilby type. I bought an old hat from ebay - the kind we had as kids with elastic strap and removed the elastic so it is neater than a modern strapped hat and fine for in hand. If you can afford it, there are strapless showing hats but they are not cheap.

If you are wearing a hard hat, anything but black is the norm. Hair should be in a bun and netted unless very short. You should also carry a show cane.

I prefer to use walking boots rather than jodphur boots to get more of a grip as I have to get a move on with my traditional to show him off.

This is my county level turnout which is suitable for traditionals, hunters, cobs, M&M and really most types in hand.

I wear a brown based outfit to suit my skewbald, but a green based tweed would look very nice with your filly.

I agree with Theresa.

Beige/cream trousers, cream/lemon short, tie with a nice colour in it, tweed jacket. Hard hat for youngster (navy/brown) and brown gloves, brown show cane, brown boots - with tread for running if on grass.

Sorry but I really wouldn't wear navy trousers and any brightly coloured waist coat at all! The idea is to not draw attention to yourself, which you certainly will if you have red/purle/yellow waistcoat.

Again, really depends on what class but you can't go wrong with the above.
