Showing Big Section D's will they ever do well?

Does size matter when it comes to section D's doing well? I have a 16.2 welsh section D would I was thinking about showing but some people have said he would never do anything other than local level because of his size, can anyone shed any light on this?
 
As far as I am aware the height limit was removed on Section D's several years ago so it shouldn't count against you in showing although I admit I have been out of the showing scene for 2 years so don't know what is currently acceptable in natives.

I think it really depends whether your's retains all the character of a true D despite his greater height...

Although judges shouldn't descriminate because of height since the restriction's been removed I can imagine some will have a more traditional idea of how a welsh cob should be.

I know quite a few welsh D judges who dont like anything over 15.2hh and some that perfer the 14.2hh ones. If it is a true stamp of D then you may bo Ok but alot of the bigger Ds look like Hunters to be honest. I personaly dont like them that big and you dont see them doing well at counbty level very often
 
Do you have any pics of your section D? I aggree with the others, but some judges may have different opinions. A correct conformation is very important, way of going, etc..

You can still show him, as others have said, there is no height limit, but you don't see many of the bigger ones (15.2+) doing that well.....
 
you can show him, but i doubt he will do well. Even at local, or even especially at local, as most local M&M judges dont know the breed standards and probably wont even know that you can get section D's that big. Mine is 15.1hh and I've always been the biggest in the class and often lost out to 14.3hh types who are more typey and ponyish.
 
I think its all down to personal preference, since the height limit has been removed I don't see why it should be held against you, as long as his conformation and movement is correct for the breed. You never know, you may find you stand out more on him due to his size and if he goes well it will be really noticed. You won't know until you give it a try, so go for it, what have you got to lose?

I have found that sadly many judges still disagree with big Welsh D's. I have a 15.2hh and have often been placed bottom of the line behind absolutely attrocious beasts! And no, Im not just being stroppy (for example, one of the horses above me didnt even canter yet my horse behaved impeccably and has huge presence).

I have even been asked if Im in the wrong class...... as they assume my boy is a Friesian due to his size!

I do know of others with big Welshies who have even been told their horses are too big.

Definately try it, you'll soon find out who likes or hates the big ones! I think they're stunning big!
