we dont have our own transport, and have been offered a space in a friends trailer for this sunday.

now this will be my daughters ( and my!) first show, as its come round a bit quick, i havent bought all the gear! its a relativly local fun show ( there are qualifiers, but im not even thinking of them)

the pony is a welsh sec a, my daughter is 8 yrs old. i know when showing she should really wear tweed as pony is a native- she only has a navy show jacket- would this really matter? does she need gloves and what colour?

only really planning on doing the fun classes- handsome gelding, cheekiest pony etc.

should she wear a tie? does it matter what colour?

she may enter m & m in hand if all goes well- again only a navy jacket, would this be ok or would she be asked to leave?

may also do the lead rein class if all goes really well- would it matter that im not properly turned out? ( no jacket)

if all goes horribly wrong ( really dont think so as pony is sweetheart!) can i go into the ring to help with in hand classes? or can i withdraw her from the ring during the class??

For local shows don't worry too much about being correct to the letter on what you wear. As long as you are smartly dressed it shouldn't matter too much.

Navy jacket for your daughter will do just fine. And I would say yes wear a shirt and tie with it (colour up to you! but try and choose one that compliments the jacket and the pony!). And I would say yes to gloves, again, colour not too important as long as they're not child bright pink type! Either navy to match the jacket or go for some light coloured ones.

I'm not sure you would be able to assist if your daughter is doing the in-hand classes. Don't believe that is allowed. But if it all goes wrong you should be able to withdraw and leave.

For you in the leadrein just find something smart to wear!

Shows are always a stress with trying to be spot on but when you get there you'll see such a variety of clothes!
 
A tweed would be more correct but you should never be asked to leave the ring for wearing the wrong one it is just a local show so do the best you can.

A pair of dark gloves should be worn, the pimple ones will be cheap to get and will do, she really should wear some for inhand classes for safety reasons.

A tie of any colour, except black ought to be worn, they look smart and without one the overall appearance will be rather scruffy.

As long as you are tidy for the lead rein that will be all required, yes there will be some very well turned out ponies and handlers but they will not all be smart.

Enjoy the day, you can ask to help your daughter or ask permission to leave the ring but at most small shows the judges will support young children rather than leave them struggling to cope.

Yes to gloves, brown ideally.

Yes to a tie - just pick a colour that tones in with the jacket/pony colour. The particular colour doesn't matter, just something that looks nice together.

If you do the lead-rein then can you borrow something suitable? If your pony is dark then light coloured plain trousers, with a dark (navy too ideally to match your daughter) jacket - not riding one, would be ideal. Just a smart outfit. I've seen people in allsorts so just think nicely presented and tidy.

If it goes a bit wonky during the in-hand class then just ask the judge if you might assist. I really can't see anyone having an issue at local level, but again it might affect your placing. Some judges are laws unto themselves so you might just have to play it by ear lol!

Chill, have a massive mug of tea and get your camera on charge - then enjoy your show!!
 
Do you an iPhone ? There's a great app called equilist and lists everything you need from a hoof pick to a generator for the lorry. You can add / remove items to the list and then tick them off as you sort them. It's helped me remember bits and bobs loads of times :)
 
Local shows, especially for kids, its really not worth worrying about strictly correct turnout. Navy jacket is fine, get some cheap pimple grip gloves to match her jodphur boots. Provided you are clean & tidy it will be fine. Plain numnah or none is best too. Judges usually very nice to little kids, at the ones we do a mum scooting in to help might knock down a placing but certainly isn't frowned upon. Our local shows inhand m&m usually feature proper entrants, & 3 or 4 under 10s with nativey heinz 57s, all of whom get tips from the judge & a special rosette.
And up to last year when mine did lr classes still, I have never worn correct turnout myself. Daughter & pony are correct, but I have gone in either in ridden show stuff, or more usually smart but everyday riding stuff or jeans & top. Don't show myself & I think I'd look more of a fool running round in comp gear, & its never effected a placing.
And novelty classes are often afternoon, by which time most of the kids at our shows are no longer very clean & in hot weather have removed jackets, loosened ties & collars etc. And for a tie, any smart one is fine ime.
 
This is my daughter wore to a local show

You can't see too clearly, but she had a tweed jacket ( given to us when we bought her pony) a White shirt and a red tie.

I went in smart trousers, boots and a tweed jacket.

Tbh all the other adults leading were in jeans, baring one very smart man.

For local shows, I think as long as you are all clean and looking reasonably tidy, then that is fine.

Ps, when it came to the lead rein class, the judge let us know that, yes she was looking at confirmation, but ultimately it would come down to the pony that looked safe enough to be ridden by a small child, as that is what you need for a lead rein pony. Which was fair enough :)
