Showing - covering white marking

My Welsh Cob is very dark bay (black basically), he has 2 hind stockings and a little rim of white above the coronet band of one front. Ive been told that it makes him look a bit uneven as ideally for showing they should be symetrical especially when its an obvious colour like a black horse with whites. So people have said I should "dirty up" the little white bit on the front leg to make it less obvious. Ive seen people do this, but I think it just makes the horse look grubby!!

So my question is - should I worry about trying to cover up this white bit? Should I even try blacking it out with showing makeup (or marker pen like someone said on the covering scars post!)???? Opinions please?!
 
Not sure how it is done in the horse show world, but I know some American poodle exhibors that use Clairol colour dye. Obdiously whatever you use it will have to be wateproof.. Wouldn't be too hard to do I would think, not sure how legal..
 
not sure how well it would work but can't you just spray over it with coloured hair spray that you can get??
at a breast cancer sponsored ride recently many peoples horses had various pink things sprayed onto them and we sprayed our ponies tail pink with fun hairspray stuff

it washes out though so obviously no good if it rains!
 
Use ordinary, human hair dye, permanent or semi-permanent. Or if you don't want to lose to white use black boot polish or the kiwi stuff that comes with a sponge applicater, that drys and does not come of it you touch it but does wash off with warm soapy water.
It depends what level you are at, if you are at local and small county I wouldn't bother, if you were going to royal international or HOYS I would get the dye out!!
I think you should try it once and if it makes a big difference in the placings, carry on doing it but if it doesn't I wouldn't bother.
 
you can get stuff from supreme to cover white marks etc...we have a welsh D with similar markings and he been to RIHS and Hoys and never blacked out the white ...if some judges see what you done at affiliated level then you may lose marks as they do not approve of the use of make up etc on natives
 
If you're showing at affiliated level, you're not meant to use any make up/artificial covering on mountain and moorlands.

TBH unless it looks very odd, or highlights a fault in conformation or movement (like an offset leg, dishing etc) I wouldn't worry about it.
 
I imagine this could raise some questions if a comparison is done with the passport...

I would rather be dropped couple of places than be accused of showing a ringer, or cheating
 
I have seen show ponies that are totally dark bay and they turn up with a perfect big white star that has been painted on, yes it makes them stand out and look pretty and judges don't seem to mind, a lot of the real top showing producers perfect makings and add and take some away. The coloured world is the worst, the are often see to have quite different markings at a show to real life to make them more striking or equal on both sides! I don't know how they would stand as regards to passports but whether it is wrong or not, they all do it. I don't do it to this extent, I perhaps use a bit of chalk, baby oil and black hoof oil but for some winning is everything!
