OK, I know nothing about the subject whatsoever and have only ever shown horses before. But our county show has a dog section, including classes for dachshunds. Missed the deadline for this year but thought it might be fun to enter the puppy class next year (he'd only have been "minor puppy" this year).

ANYWAY... is it worth a go? Or are these things only for serious dog show peeps? Would I have to go to ringcraft classes first? Pup is KC registered and to me of course, he is a star, but no idea how he'd get on with the professionals!

I would go to ringcraft and try to contact your local breed club to see if someone could give you tips and advice.

Can't give you any breed-specific info as my experience is haring round a football pitch at the speed of light with a dog at the other end of a 2m long lead, not trotting in a nice triangle and standing quietly for the judge

in the meantime why don't you look up a local companion dog show. I've been to a couple this year and found them to be really relaxed and and friendly. they have pedigree classes and 'fun' classes and it's usually abiut £1-£1.50 to enter.

Dachshunds have to be weighed in the class, depending on the type of daschs ie sixe thus the weight. Ringcraft is your best solution if it is just a county show thus open show then no big deal at all!

Pm me if you want; profesional handler so can give you all the tips!
