Hi (or should I say 'Good afternoon'!)

I've not posted before, I prefer to lurk and read the threads but after reading the 'Rude Judge' thread i'm interested to know more about showing etiquette. I do enjoy a bit of local level m&m showing, both ridden and in hand and although i'm not justifying the judges behaviour on the original thread, i'm intrigued to know a little more about these odd little rules of the show ring.

:)

I don't know much about showing, but I know it threw me when someone went home from autumn hunting at 8am and said goodnight !

When leaving the hunting field you are meant to say good night to the master, irrespective of the time of day !

I read the post to which you refer with interest. I started showing section Ds in hand about 12 years ago as an absolute beginner. I remember going into my first in-hand class as a raw novice and my more experinced wife saying 'Just follow the horse in front' which was fine but I was pulled in first. On the whole since then as I have progressed from local riding club to WPCS association shows, county shows Lampeter and Glanusk to the pinnacle of my showing career running a stallion at the Royal Welsh I have found most people at all levels incredibly helpful and polite as well as being keen competitors in the ring.
I have no advice regarding etiquette as I have not studied it but I do try and be polite at all times and traet people with respect and How I would like to be treated. Yes I have come accross the odd rude person but I laso do that in everyday life. The best piece of advice I can give is smile and enjoy it because if you don't, what's the point?

I do some judging and come across all sorts of people, all I ask is that you are polite, kind but positive with your horse and attentive of what is going on around you and be willing to take comment or advice if offered any. I try to be fair and judge what is in front of me on the day but inevitably you can't please all of the people all of the time!
