HELP!

Thinking about entering our first showing class next month, except neither of us have ever been showing before.

What does he need to wear? What do I need to wear? Do I have to plait him? Does it matter he's got a pulled tail?

Help please...

He's a lot better condition now that he is in this pic, but rough idea of confirmation:

Aww, he's gorgeous :)
I'm not sure if these are all perfectly correct, so im sorry if not! This is what I wore for my ex-racer showing class..

You:
Yellow shirt
Tweed jacket
Yellow jods
Long black boots, or jodphur boots
Yellow gloves
Navy hat
Tie if you have one?

Him:
Plaited mane/forelock, pulled tail (not sure if you HAVE to have it pulled, im sure someone else will say..)
I had a hunter bridle, but im sure thats up to you..
Any saddle? but matching bridle colour..
Well hidden numnah, darker colours e.g brown, black.

As I said, sorry if its wrong! Hope everything goes well for you though :D and let us know how you got on?

hi, he's lovely.
I started showing my 5yo exrace-horse this season and from my experience, platting up is a plus, mane, forlock. as for the tail (as long as it is tidy) but in the guidelines it states it as not essential. For the tack, a i did mine in a snaffle but others had double bridles on. i also rode in a showjumping saddle as my boy can be a bit flighty at times. there was a mass mix of saddle, from showjumping to dressage to showing saddles. they do state it is about the horses manners and how you work together, conditions and how well they have taking to there new job.
as for you you i woudl go with the tweed. but then again i wne to one show and all were in tweed and the next they were all in navy jackets. personally i would say the tweed jackets look far better. then a shirt with either a tie or stock. cream jods. gloves are a must now, even on a summers day.

to be honest you could wear anything and it is about what the judge likes the look of, on the day. one week you could be at the bottom and the next at the top.
one tip i did learn, they really like them working on an outline in the ridden class.
At the end of the day as long as you enjoy yourself, it doesnt matter.

If you look on the RoR website they have a list of tack and outfits that are preferred for showing.

I've shown my boy in a snaffle this year as we've only just started, but think I will put him in a double next year.

Personally, I would put you in a navy jacket, cream shirt and jods, tie and long boots with proper 'velvet' hat (not skull cap). For your horse, a GP saddle is fine and a nice bridle with a coloured browband. Plait up and get his tail tidy (pref pulled).

Good luck :D

I agree with above - your horse is lovely by the way....I have done a little bit of really low end showing (so low it couldn't get lower!) and I would wear exactly as above, although I go for black jacket and hat, but that's just personal preference. I have two ex-racers - one has a pulled tail and the other natural, so I have the option to leave it natural or plait it.
