I've been doing the ridden arab class at the local show this season for a bit of fun (go to do the dressage, but decided to make a day of it and do a showing class too).

At the last show, we qualified for the premier riding club championships in July, and in a fit of madness I have decided to go and have sent off the entry form.

I'm a bit worried about looking out of place, so can anyone help me? What is expected of you in the class, ideas for a suitable individual show etc?

Also, my current kit is: Blue tweed, navy hat, navy tie with little squares on it, white shirt, beige breeches, black long boots, spurs, and black gloves.

The horse wears brown tack (a pelham bridle, WH saddle with brown saddlecloth) and I carry a brown show cane.

Is this all correct for an Arab class? Should my gloves match my boots (black), tack (brown) or hat/jacket (blue)?

I guess my hat should match my jacket, is that correct?

And should the ned wear a coloured browband?

Any help most appreciated!

www.arabianlines.com is a specialist arab forum - look for the forum link on the left - it's a friendly place (although I show I am not an Arab expert so best ask those who know!

Right most of what you have is correct however if possible try to do the following

Beg borrow or steal a green or brown tweed. they are more correct then blue tweeds

Navy hat is good, if it has flesh coloured straps even better (not sure if arabs can be ridden in beaglers as it has been so long since i did arab classes and i was quite young back then so mummy made me wear a proper hat). Just togs do one for £40 with flesh coloured harness.

Brown leather gloves are better then black.

Brighter tie would be nice but not essential. (50p from charity shop)
Cream shirt is better then a white one (stick white one in the was with a couple of yellow dusters and hey presto cream shirt).

For arabs coloured browbands are optional however most people use them.

I dont know if the judge will ride or not at the championship (normaly not at the RC champs) so if the judge doesnt ride then a very simple show showing walk trot and canter on each rein and a gallop/extended canter on one rein. Dont do anything fancy unless you can do it perfect every time.
Get your horse ridden by different riders just incase the judge rides and ensure your stirrup leathers and irons are big enough for a male judge. just in case!
