Hi

Firstly can anyone recommend a good instructor in thevteesside area? For a child doing lead rein classes that will hopefully progress to first ridden next year.

Secondly I have a first ridden pony that is very experienced she gets bored in the lead rein classes and does not carry her head steady all of the time like a lot of the lead reins ponies do. We always get placed but it's frustrating that she can do better how do the showing pros get there lead rein ponies to have a steady outline the whole time?

Regards

They strap their heads down with side reins or bungees, put the ponies in wilkies, tie knots in the reins at the right length so they are always taught and have pressure on the bit and then make the child hold onto a strap at the front of their saddle so the hands don't move thus the contact on the bit that is a gag in all but name does it's job and keeps the ponies head where they want it to be.

Those of us who hate loath and despise the above method put hours upon hours of training into the ponies, school them properly and teach the kids to ride them.

I have seen them today trotting around with no riders on and reins tied. It seems silly when I'm wanting my daughter to be in the first riddens soon... no point in telling her to just sit there in the lead rein class she needs to ride properly so I know she's safe to be on her own. Pony goes brilliant when I ride her so it's a case of teaching my daugther how to work her properly. Rather than having the false outline of being strApped down.... thank you

EKW is totally right years ago I worked for a show producer and they used to put side reins on the young ponies while they were in there stable:( I have worked for someone else who employed light riders so the ponies were ridden properly everyday and the kids that rode at shows could also ride so the ponies were produced correctly, it takes time but it looks so much better when you can see the child is actually riding and not just sitting.
