Showing help please - i'm a complete novice with showing!

I'm planning on entering my yards Charity show on 13th Sep, and for the first time ever i'm going to do some showing (thats what my new loan horse did in her day - and was a champion) i know we're unlikely to be placed as her tail has been chewed off, but its for fun.

We're doing ridden coloured, veteran, and riding horse. however having never done any ridden showing - what do i have to do? any help and advice would be gratefully received! also i'm planning on riding her in a pelham, i assume this is ok? and as per my post yesterday i've just invested ina brown tweed jacket, please tell me this will be fine.

i'll also be doing a dressage test and maybe a clear round - at least i'll know what i'm doing then!

Having just recently done a showing class for the first time I can let you know what I had to do. Just a small class, ridden cob, just walked round, then trotted, then cantered (well fast trot in my case)!! lol - The judge and their assistant will then call you into the middle and you do a little show (normally in figure of eight, first in walk, then trot and perhaps a canter but not always necessary). To be quite honest I did a lot of watching other people, and I think thats the best way to learn. Relax and enjoy - I was petrified but we won our first rosette !! (mind you it was third and there were only 3 in it) but that doesnt matter!! Ooh - dont forget when you finish your little show to ride up to judge and do a little salute to say you've finished!! can you plait the tail? if not pull the top to neaten it up (means u dont have to plait as it looks smart!)

You do a group walk trot canter, on both reins, then line up (sometimes judge pulls in in order, sometimes its line up as u are) then individual show of walk trot canter on both reins plus whatever the judge asks for, or if u want to include a rein back or something (have seen someone do a flying change, but that was thought to just be showing off as was not requested and never normally done) then that is ok!

Try to get ur horse to stand square, even in teh line up but most importantly when infront of the judge!

Pelham is great to show in and so is tweed jacket.
For those classes you will need to plait up.
You will walk, trot and canter as a ride and then all called in line up, you will then do your individual show of walk, trot and canter on both reins, remember to keep it quite short as you don't want to bore the judge lol

thanks everyone - i'll definitely have a look through those websites - my mare is an old pro at showing, but i'm so nervous!
