I am such a proud Mum :') Rox (my coloured in my signature) won both his classes at the show yesterday in the coloured and youngstock classes, he won the inhand show champion and qualified for the Ultimate Showcase of Champions at Great Yorkshire Showground next Sunday (8th August) eeeeek! :D :D :D

Is anyone else going to USOC? Have you been before? I would gladly welcome your experiences and any tips, I have a billion and one questions in my mind and would like to know how things run there.

This is the show schedule: http://www.usoc.co.uk/pdf/2010_schedule.pdf

My friend is taking Rox in the inhand classes for me, class 50 Younstock and class 54 True coloured (plaited and trimmed). I worked out, using my half an hour per class basis, that the youngstock class would start at approximately 10:00 a.m. What do you think? I am intending to arrive there for 8:30 a.m. to allow myself plenty of time to get my bearings.

The judges are Mrs Shelia Dinsdale and Mrs Sue Grundy. Does anybody know them, are they nice, do you know what they like... chocolate bribes perhaps lol!! :p ;)

I have never been to anything on this level before, total showing novice, and would really appreciate some help!

I have some photo's of my little man yesterday, I will share them on here later, as I am just heading out to feed the horses now! xx :D

Thank you very much Laura and Horsecrazy25, I am so overwhelmed! I am a biased mum and I think my boy is gorgeous, however, I didn't quite expect this! I wanted him to get abit of education under his belt... the rosettes and qualifier were the icing on the cake with sprinkles and a cherry on top lol! xx :D

Here are several photo's from yesterday when my friend Davina showed him for me....

Sorry for the size of them, they are massive eeek! :o  xx :)

He's a stunner isn't he. :) And he looks so much more grown up in the recent pics. Good Luck at the champs. We'll need a full report and loads more pics. :p :D

I went to USOC a couple of years ago and did Cob Type - it was fab. When we went, they divided the main arena into 4 smaller rings, but they were still a very decent size.

The parking was just outside the main ground and riding up to the arena was wonderful. Everybody was in the main collecting ring so that was busy. but the best bit was riding in that wonderful arena. I can't imagine how it must feel when the Grandstand is full... :D

We went for the day so didn't book a stable. Have a wonderful time.

Thank you very much Laura! Believe me, you will have a full report and plenty of 'proud mum type' photo's! I'm not expecting him to win, I know he will be against some top horses and top showers, but I am just ecstatic that he has the opportunity to compete somewhere like that. Eeeeeek! xx :D

Oh wow, that gave me goose bumps reading your post! You have sold it to me even more. Sounds magical!

Thank you everso much for your reply, very informative thanks! I am taking him in the trailer for the day, is everything marked out well? I may sound terribly thick, but when you say parking was outside the main ground, was it far to walk to the show rings etc...? (I am recovering from a broken ankle hence why I ask)!

Is it a big show? As in, compared to Great Yorkshire Show layout? xx :D

Our area festival of champions looks like a no go this year - gutted

Enjoy - thats all I'll say - after all isn't that what we keep our equine friends for.

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that, do you mind if I ask why? :(

Thank you very much, I'm so excited it is unbelievable! I'm really looking forward to the experience and education, it is going to be great! xx :D

We are lucky in that we live in Harrogate so its onlyabout 10 mins drive. Taking our friend with her exmoor mare as well. Very excited, will be spending saturday bathing Ash. Will look out for you.

Oh gosh that's handy! I think we will have a 2 hour drive eeek, will be setting off at 6:30 a.m. - I'm a little anxious about travelling a two year old that sort of distance and then him being happy at the show, but hopefully if we arrive in plenty of time it will give him time to unwind from such a long journey!

Oh great, you will have to say hi if you spot us. Good luck! xx :D

First of all well done.

You'll have a smashing time, I did when I went many years ago, you need to camp though, that's what makes it all the more fun, so tent, beers and a BBQ but you can always nip to Sainsbury's (or it is Waitrose now ) and buy some evening food/drink from there.

Take a gazibo, electric fence kit, aways handy to have around you trailer if you don't want overnight stabling.

Make sure you double check/confirm your entries and over night stabling requirements because they were a bit useless last time, last thing you want is for them to mess it up when you have paid.

Don't leave anything valuable outsite your stable....as it my get nicked.

I'd bath before you go but then just use the wash down facilities should you need to.

Take a spare bale of straw with you for bedding as well as the one(s) you buy (as people some nick other peoples that are left outsite stables).

You'll have a fantastic time.:)

Thank you very much Kenzo! Great to hear of your experience, it makes me want to go all of the more! :D

In fairness, I would like to have overnight stabling - it would certainly be better then the early morning I am going to have, but Rox hasn't been stabled over night before.

When I got him from his breeders he was unhandled and lived out 24/7 in a herd. When I put him in the stable at our yard, he cleared the 4 foot door twice at standstill. Amusingly, he wasn't stressed, just didn't understand the concept of what the door was for, he just wanted to go the other side of the yard to the big bale of hay (even though he had hay in his stable)!! Cue a grid being attached to his door for him to be stabled at night last winter just gone. But then I badly broke my ankle last year and wasn't able to weight bear for 7 months, so the non-horsey OH had to look after my boys, and so they wintered out 24/7 in the field.

So I don't think it would be fair on the little man to take him so far, and stable him for the first time in a strange place over night. If it had been my bay, I would have done without a doubt!

OMG, I can't believe people would steal things!! That is shocking! Eeeeek, thanks for the heads up, I will definitely be careful with my things! xx :)

Congrats on qualifying! Your horses are lovely. I will be going as well :D in unusual coloured and non-uk breed classes. I have never been to a big show either, in fact I had never been a competitor at any show until a year ago. I am camping overnight, got my stable booked - very excited! I'll see Ash in the coloured class:) Look out for us - I have a fjord.

I'm hoping to go in the non native coloured inhand and veteran inhand. My girlie below has rubbed her tail though so not sure what to do with it. Don't really want to razor or pull it. She's 20 and likes to pose.

Oh fantastic!! You will be in the same class as my little man, class 54 True coloured (plaited and trimmed)! My friend is taking him in for me, as I can't run anymore due to a very bad ankle break last year. I will have a good study of your mares markings and try spot you! :)

I can't believe your girl is 20! She looks so well, a very beautiful girl! Good luck! xx :D

Rudey, I will be easy to spot if we go ( she has cut her face today ! ).I'll be the one holding the horse that won't stand still and won't stop whinnying. She gets very excited.

Well done for qualifying.

We are taking our hunter mare for the trip out. Not sure what to expect of her but its a good day out. We are doing the hunters (ridden and inhand), Veterans, and the concours at the end of the day. Typical first class 8.30 and the last at god knows what time. Will look out for you and say Hi.
