Showing- help please!

I’ve never done a showing show before and I have no idea how it works!

I’ve been googling and it seems to a be a minefield of what type of horse/what you should wear/ what they should wear.

My boy is a 16.2 ex racer so looking to do ROR and maybe another class, but no idea what!

Any tips and advice gratefully received!

Well I'm definitely not an expert, but know enough about what I should be doing to not look out of place....

Are you just looking at local level?

Basically the rules are:
For you:
Twead jacket
Pastel shirt
Tie
Beige jods
Boots as simple as possible - stay away from patent, bling or an exaggerated curvy cut at the top
Brown gloves
Velvet cover on hat
Hair net

For horse:
Simple bridle - plain noseband and browband, preferably no patent, either snaffle with cavesson noseband or a double if he goes in one. Preferably brown leather
Simple saddle - gp, vsd or at a push a dressage cut, minimal numnah (not a saddle pad) or nothing underneath. Preferably brown
No boots except in the jumping phase of the working hunter
Plaited mane and tail (or pulled tail), preferably sewn in

Depending on what kind of build of tb he is you could also so riding horse classes and maybe working hunter if he jumps.

the above is mostly correct but I think they can wear coloured browbands in ror classes and they can be worn in riding horse classes which being thoroughbred he could possibly do as well, I would google some ror shows and look at the photographers for the day that way you can look at the other competitors and the horses and get an idea of what would look correct and suit your horses colouring, its nice to wear clothes that complement your horses colour.

Yes just looking at local level to get him out and about as he's barely done anything since being off the track.

I only have black tack, will that be a problem? As I'm only wanting to do a few bits a pieces I'm not keen to buy all new tack!

A couple of pictures- what class outside of ROR do you think he would fit into? At the moment he hasn't done much jumping so would prefer something without jumps.

You'll be fine in black tack for local level

agree it will be fine, his very smart and a nice stamp of a TB apart from ror I think his more like a riding horse than anything else, local level you could do riding club horse some classes want you to jump one small jump, also turnout classes are good for horses to get them used to a ring environment and its a good warm up class.
