Hi all!

I am posting this to get advice for a friend of mine. She is going to be competing her stunning PRE spanish horse in a couple weeks time in some showing classes. I want to know some info about the classes she will be competing in as I am used to welsh and M&M classes.

She will be competing in equitation, hack&ridden horse and foreign breeds.
I wanted to know the ideal turnout for each of the classes and advice on how to do a decent show for each too. Tack, rider clothes, tweed or navy, bits etc. Anything would be helpful!

Finally, this horse is trained up to prix saint george in dressage and I was wondering if there is anything we should bare in mind in regards to differences in way of going in showing classes and dressage.

Thank you for any advice!! :)

Is the class actually hack &ridden horse or is it hack and riding horse.
There is a big difference between the 2.

For Equitation then its tweed, shirt, tie, navy hat, brown leather gloves, cream/beige/canary jobs, long black boots as per your largebreed M&Ms
Horse in a plain hunter bridle. Normally these classes are snaffles only, some say no spurs/whips so check the rules carefully.

For foreign breeds I'd probably go for either traditional Spanish tack or the same as for the equitation class but with the horse in a Pelham/double.

For the final class I really do need the question above answered.

Way of going wise she should be fine in equitation and foreign breeds, equitation she can go to town with the party tricks. Foreign breeds I'd keep it simple in the show but a simple change (canter, walk, canter) or flying change across the diagonal can impress.

Thank you for all the advice! It's all really helpful. And yes, it is hack and riding horse. Not hack&ridden. Sorry about that.

As it is hack and riding horse I have to say that a PRE would be in the wrong class.
A riding horse class is for a specific type of horse, they are fine blood horses with more bone/substance and less of a daisy cutting action than a show hack, but less workman like and less bone/ substance than a hunter. A PRE would be very out of place unless he is very incorrect for his breed. Here is a h&h piece about hacks and riding horses.

I'd be more inclined to put him in a sports horse type class or even a Ridden horse class but not a Riding horse class

Ah ok, thank you for this! I will mention it to her, this isn't a high level show just a local thing so I think she just wanted to try quite a few classes. Thank you!

I would just wear a tweed jacket and turn out like you would for any other show, I often do foreign breed classes at local shows I have Arabs they will often say you can do exactly as you like in your individual show so you can do some fancy moves to impress if you want to, I have occasionally done riding horse although I stand out like a sore thumb as I am the only one without a plaited horse but often there is literally no other class to do, some judges comment I am in the wrong class some don't some will just put you last, it's often for me just a case of getting them in the ring for a bit of experience.

I did a local country show last week and there was an andalusian in the foreign breed class that was plaited up so he just looked like a lightweight hunter/warmblood.
