Difficult to say without seeing a proper side on conformation shot and also depends whether you are talking affiliated or unaffiliated.... Some ponies cross over into both riding pony and hunter pony classes although I usually think they should be one or the other except in certain cases (e.g Sycamore Candyman which does well under saddle in both riding pony and show hunter pony).

If you're thinking of starting off in unaffiliated classes then I'd say yes, go for it and get some feedback from judges as to which type he fits best. You may also find welsh part bred classes. If you're thinking of affiliated showing then it would be an idea to go along and watch at a couple of shows first before you shell out for registration fees etc. As long as you have fun and enjoy yourselves that's the main thing :)

Thankyou,
he will only being doing local level shows that have your normal classes, looked at the schedule is there is no part breed, and he only fits into the youngstock, riding horse/pony (if he can do it), coloureds, best condition etc

i also show in black trousers, white shirt, black waistcoat with a tie to suit pony and my hair tied back is this ok at local level, ive shown fine in that in the last few shows
