Does anyone have any experience with showing a hogged Irish Draught?

I've read something from the ID society to say they can be shown hogged with a pulled/trimmed tail, but many other google pages say it's only okay for local level, and you'd get marked down or put last at any higher level.
I've never done showing before, however currently have in a stunning, flashy liver chestnut ID, who is a full time hunt horse. He has beautiful movement and temperament, his schooling has come on wonderfully and he jumps well. When I look at him, I think he would excel in the show ring or perhaps doing some working hunter, but he is hogged (and looks much better this way!).

Any advice on starting?
He also has a black gp saddle, would this have any effect?

Saddle - black shouldn't go against you, I've heard ONCE of a class being decided on tack, when everything else was even stevens. A GP is fine if you both go well in it, M&M workers is much more in straight cut saddles, plaiteds tend to more forward cut saddles, not 100% sure about worker cobs. Flat classes at moderate to high levels will be mostly straight cut saddles. Make sure the saddle sits back (tree points 4-5cm behind the very rear edge of the shoulder blade), and stays back, as that will help show the shoulder.
