Do i show in-hand in bridle as in pelham with double reins?

Or in snaffle bridle with a chain leadrope?

Which would be best? For coloured showing....

You can use either, if he/she behaves then just stick with the snaffle on an inhand bridle, personally, I like simplicity when it comes to inhand, brood mares tend to be shown in double bridles (if I'm not mistaken).

How old?

I show Chancer in hand in an inhand bridle with a copper small ring snaffle and a leather newmarket coupling - but this is the only showing he has done until this weekend.

For older horses, some people show in a double or a snaffle or as I do using an inhand bridle.

On the BSPA site it recommends snaffle only for draught types, snaffle is recommended for WB/Performance, vanners and ponies and snaffle or double for Hunters/TBs/Cob/Native/ LWs.

I personally prefer my inhand bridle - much neater and no faffing with two sets of reins as you would with a double.

I always show in my brass buckled in-hand bridles, with butterfly, or brass chain, and leather lead rope, I agree with the simple is best idea.

It's most correct for a horse that's old enough to be ridden (4+) to be shown in a ridden bridle with double reins (eg a double, pelham etc), unless they're a native or a specialist breed.

The most important thing is to not mix and match - either go for ridden bridle with double reins, or an inhand bridle with snaffle and coupling.
