what can i use.. ? im talking about for affliated/county level class wise.. sports horse, coloured, hunter, competiton horse etc.

basically my mare switches off in the line up, i can do the work before hand, but as soon as ive switched to my normal showing cane and shes been stood for a while she switches off.. (bless my mare for losing me 3rd place at devon county..)

with the showing cane the smart arse knows i cant really reach her.. and also at county level i cant really give her a tickle. (well im not feeling i can.)

And yes i know that work at home etc is a big part, but im finding all goes to plan until the 1st call in, where at this point she relaxes and turns off.

can i use whips like this.. ???

A show cane is correct & frequently essential !

The one in the link above really wouldn't be acceptable. If the horse won't 'go' all you can do is take the rein in your right hand, & tap the horse up with the left hand.

Pic in link is a 'cob whip' usually seen in Welsh classes. I wouldn't use it for hunters tho.

I would give her a sharp slap on the shoulder/side when the horse before you is going, to make sure she is up & awake, ready to go!! Walk with a purpose, march her along with a couple of clicks, get her expecting to trot off any time.
