Hi everyone ...Does anyone know the right dress code for yearling inhand classes ? I have an ISH Filly which I hope to be entering her into balmoral this year, My hubbie has kindly offered ( i literally had to twist his arm) to lead her as she can become quite strong and boisterous ( what yearling isnt ? ) .. she is 15.2hh roughly at the minute and is 11 mths old ( her sire is 16.3 and so is her dam ) .... Im quite sure on everything apart from her tail as its not fully grown, Does she need it pulled ? or just a general tidy up ? ... Any other advice greatly appreciated xx

Any one ?

She will need to be presented with mane plaited and pulled or plaited tail. She can be bitted as a yearling, the nylon bits with brass rings are popular for young horses, or a small ringed snaffle bit. The handler should be in trousers, practical but smartish shoes for running, shirt, tie and jacket, and to be correct should have a hat on! The general rule is if your horse has light couloured legs, dark trousers, and dark legs, light trousers.

Hope that helps!!

I don't think that for county showing whites are used in sportshorse classes.
Its more trditional tweeds ...
brown/green hacking jacket
smart trousers (dark for white legs, cream for dark legs)
shirt and tie
hat (beagler or wide brim type)
gloves and sensible shoes/short boots
horse is plaited and tail pulled
plain brown inhand bridle or bitted.

Yes, the photos I'd remembered seeing before competing in the classes last year all showed handlers dressed top to toe in white but my experience has been at county/ mixed shows dress is as for in hand hunters.

However, breed specific shows such as the Trakehner show, the BWBS and the BD Youngstock show, the handlers were dressed as on the continent in whites.

I did show Spider in the Coloured Sportshorse Champs in white and was the only one

, however the judge commended me on my sensible turnout so I went from being rather self conscious to being quite chuffed!

When we took Shadow as a two year old, he was plaited, tail plaited, all feathery/rough bits on legs clipped off, and he was shown in an in-hand bridle to complement his head shape/size and i wore neautral coloured trousers and shirt plus a tweed jacket with brown gloves and carried a short show cane. We did well so i think we were dressed ok.

Good luck at Balmoral, I was going to enter our 2yr old, but he going the ugly duckling stage at the minute, so probably won't show him this year. Hope to do Balmoral next year
