I want to do some showing with Scooby in the summer (nothing special, just coloured or cob ridden classes at local village shows), and I think that to show a cob it's better to wear tweed (correct me if I'm wrong), but I'm astounded by the cost of a tweed showing jacket! Even for a second hand one on Ebay I'm looking at £50 - there's no way I can afford that. Anyone got an idea of a cheaper place to buy a tweed showing jacket, or can I wear a black one, which seem to be much cheaper? I'm sort of hoping someone at the yard will be able to lend me one, since I have no money and I've already asked for a body protector for my birthday and my friends and relatives aren't rich enough to buy me a jacket as well... but obviously that's a very long shot (and quite cheeky!) so I'd better look at buying one for myself.

Tweed is definately the correct jacket to wear. Have a look around the charity shops, you may be lucky enough to come accross a tailored or fitted jacket that will do in the short term.

As you've still got a bit of time until the summer show season, I'd get one off of ebay. My tweeds have been second hand but the shop prices have been £150 to £250 and the most I've paid was £37

Search hacking jacket on ebay obv i don't know your size etc but theres a fair few cheap ones on there that would be fine for local level

try r and r country supplies got some in sale, robinsons had some in sale too for less than 40.00. You are better with a decent make second hand one in my opinion than a newcheap one. The cut is better - but just my opinion

I think a big part of the problem is that tweed as a fabric is quite expensive, whereas the synthetic blends used for your standard black jacket are quite cheap.

Def give charity shops a go - my tweed jacket that I use to hunt in is actually a men's suit jacket that cost about £10 from a charity shop. I've only ever had people remark how nice it is! You do have to hunt around a bit for ones with vents at the back but they can be found.
