Hi
I am wanting to show Fany, an Ardennes (trait ardennais) mare in heavy horse classes nest year. I am after advice about supplements/ ideas/tips for growing her mane. She has a thick double mane, which get thicker but not longer, if that makes sense?

Also any showing peeps, tips please on showing her or ideas etc.

Thanks
FDC

I know naff all about showing but we have a little mare who reguarly rubs her mane to a nub with sweetitch and I coat it in pig oil and sulpher - it is meant to be good with hair growth. They do sell mane extensions don't they? Are they legal in the showing world? If she's a heavy could you not show her plaited with ribbons like a shire? As I said, I know nothing about showing!

Cheers anyway, I thought I was not going to get any answers!
I know that they do use Pig oil for keeping legs etc. clean. I know little about showing too, that is why I posted. She has very good showing lines and I thought it might be a bit of experience for both of us. Really though it is the wrong time of year.

Thanks again :)

There are some lovely products out there - mega tek rebuilder for instance. Pig oil on manes helps some horses from rubbing. I love alva sweet as an all round itch stopper.

Lots of people plait manes to help them grow longer. I use mane bags also. If you want to know more about them pm me :)

Thanks FDC x he is our pride and joy has inspired us in so many ways - a true ray of light.

Have you looked up pics of ardennes being shown - this is a good place to start for tips on turnout.

From what I've seen it looks like turnout on the mane is similar to shgires and cyldes with ribbons - my friend is currently having lessons on how to do this on her heavy. tail looks standard plaiting.

Might be worth contacting breed society.

Megatek is brilliant - my mare gets the bottom of her mane rubbed every winter and this stuff makes it grow back. It's also fab to make hair grow back after cuts etc, very useful for my thug-like 2yo!

You can find iit on www.tailgator.co.uk
