I have two!

As of yet I haven't shown them but will do this month! Depends on the level of show and colour of pony really. Obviously if its county will all have to be perfect but at local level i doubt you'll loose placings if you have the wrong pair of gloves or whatever...

I wear a pair of trousers (if pony has white legs trousers should be dark, if pony has dark legs trousers should be light) and a shirt/tie and black waistcoat and a hat. My boys are young so will be in a leather head collar and leather show chain.

Most importantly have fun!! (And show us pics of course.... :p )

Women should never wear black in the showring unless they are in mourning.

A tweed jacket or waistcoat is correct for showing shetlands with either a shirt and tie (jacket) or a smart blouse (waistcoat).

I've only shown at a local level, but for me it was:

smart cream medium weight trousers (he's black so I wanted him to show up against my legs)
black jodh boots
tweed jacket
black velvet hat with the ribbons and harness tucked in
hairnet
brown gloves
black showing cane
white shirt
navy or burgundy tie

For him (stallion):

gleaming coat
hoof oil
in-hand bridle (brown leather)
brass stallion bit (steel mouthpiece, brass horseshoe rings)
brass browband
newmarket coupling
white webbing lead 'rope'

Seemed to work - honestly not boasting - we were usually in the ribbons

Does it matter what colour tweed?

No, it doesn't matter what colour tweed so long as it is smart. Greens and Browns tend to go with most colours of ponies. I would avoid Grey or Blue tweeds with a grey pony or a coloured with lots of white.

I've shown my shetlands up to county level, and placed, and wearing black has never been an issue.

As others have said - smart trousers which are the opposite colour of your ponies legs so they show separately, smart shirt & tie and then either a waistcoat or a jacket. Hat is usually worn also - nor normally a riding one unless you're a child - normally a trilby or straw, etc.
