Hmmm been giving this alot of thought.......hoping to do more dressage throughout the winter and eventually want to get to novice level BD.
She has a really human sounding name which is rather plain...............her original name was beautiful only i had started calling her the *new* name for a good while before finding out her past :( it was Jucinta......its now sally.
It just sounds so blah.....her passport hasnt got her name as shes weatherbys registered TB who has never raced........so do i make one up or use her original name for showing?
Does your horse have a showing name?

Just remember that if you want to register with BD you will need to use the name on her passport. So make sure that whatever you chose is a name that you really really like! You cannot change a Weatherby's name once it's on the passport - although I don't know about a no-name passport! My poor TB has a truely horrid name which is completely unsuitable for BD dressage - the only thing that it will do is to make him memorable!!

I had 3 passports for her at one point, one she came with (obv dodgy) registered as an ISH - knew she was TB but loved her so much i took a chance, got her back and scanned her to find she had a chip and called up weatherbys who sent me a duplicate, sent the *false* one to them then traced her breeder from ireland who sent me the original weatherbys one with no name, just a sticker with her stable name stuck to the front.
So if i do register her for BD would i have to contact weatherbys to have a name on her passport? just says on it that the passport cannot be used for racing or breeding????

Presumably you need to talk to Weatherby's to discuss procedure for giving your horse a name! Think it is good to relate name to sire if possible but hey, you could go for anything!

I like the stable name Sally! Its simple and pretty. I think you should include that. I'm not keen on her original name in fact I cant even remember it from 2 seconds ago when I read your post lol! Will go away and think of some names :)

Sally Brown - is Charlie Brown's little sister and I think your mare is bay?

Sublime Sally - going with the 'winged theme here'

Sally Swift - again with the 'winged' :)

My TB mare's Weatherby's name is a bit rubbish, but I don't feel it's my place to change it officially. I would like to give her a "show" name of either Hells Bells or Bellzilla, but we only do local shows, I guess it would be different if we did affiliated or ROR type classes

Winged Amour - similar name to her daddy, sounds quite nice for a floaty dressage horse.

Long Tall Sally - bit rubbish, sorry

My old boy was registered at Weatherbys when he was born and when he died at 24 and 11 months was still registered as a colt with no name - bless. He didn't have a Weatherbys passport formal passport but one from another society so had his show name in that with the Weatherbys foal registration certificate stapled inside. His breeders had handwritten a name on the foal registration but he was never called that either at home or for any society registration (BE, BSJA, BHSA or VHS - a multi talented horse). Mind you, when he was competing passports weren't a law of land requirement so probably a bit different.

In a similar situation here - my TB has never raced and has a noname weatherbys passport - yet previous owner has biro'd her stable name in (not one i'm keen on but using it for comps etc as i don't want to change it). Like you though could add something infront or after, just so damn hard thinking of something.

Salsa Sally
Sally of the Swings

sorry no good at this name lark hence mine hasn't developed one

How about Sallynero - like the v famous dressage horse but spelled a bit different, I like a name that will make people smile!!! Or Winged Sallynero!!!??

P.s. think Sally is a vast improvement on Jacinta!!!!! :D
