Do you always show your New Forest in hand using an in hand bridle? I have always shown in a proper in hand bridle but I think they look too fine for a Foresters head. I prefer the look of a wider caveson noseband but do you think a judge would penalise for showing in a snaffle bridle? She is only 4 so too young in my opinion for a pelham or double. I know the white halters are also correct but I need a bit more control with this mare!
Many thanks in advance

Use what you need to use, you're most likely to be penalised for water ski-ing across the arena behind a pony you can't hold ;)

Use bridles on some, halters on others - again depends on the control needed and in some cases what dresses the head/type best. If you need her in a snaffle bridle rather than a halter or double/pehlam put her in it. Good luck with your shows :D

I used a hunter snaffle bridle on my 4 year old highland. I only had positive comments, normal in hand bridles look silly on him. You can get in hand hunter bridles but I was always told a ridden bridle was correct once they reach 4.

Thank you for your replies. I'll go for the hunter snaffle bridle option i think. We don't have so much waterskiing over the arena as airs above the ground! She's so good outside of the ring just a bit nutty when we get in there!
Good Luck with your shows too

In hand bridle up to age of 4 then ridden bridle is correct, doubles can look cumbersome in hand, personally i always use standard cavesson riding bridles for both my Foresters and Welshies once they are 4.

I have a fiesty welsh filly which i show in a white halter. I have however got the one with a chain lead this year and had perfect control compared to the acrobatics i had last year with just a plain white halter. Maybe this could work?
