Hey guys could you please give me some opinions on how this sounds???

I have entered my new mare Eowyn into a local agri show in small riding horse.

This is her

So having been told by showing people that she would be best in Small riding horse I have entered he in it. This will be her first outing so I will not be buying a whole outfit for her and it will be black tack for the moment until I find out hows she copes with outings. If she shows promise then I will splurge on all the lovely goodies for her.

Now she goes well in a snaffle but should I maybe go out and buy a pelham for her and school her for the next two weeks in it just to be bit correct???

Now MY turnout will be this

Now I know it should be green tweed etc but splurging on all the gear when I dont know what she will be like seems pointless at the moment.

Will we bothe be smart enough looking??? Do people agree that she is a small riding horse???

Also I wanted to have a bash at working hunter with her what do people think???

Opinions please!!!

Ideally, I would get a velvet browband on her, raise her noseband a little, preferably some cream/beige/canary jodpurs on, (id go for the beige or cream with your jacket).
Pop a hairnet on, and a nice bun-no pony tails (you), and pull/smarten her mane-it'll be A LOT easier to plait, I couldn't believe the difference it made to my mare :)
The week before the show, have a few practices at the individual show you are going to do-get a steady balanced canter, nice trot, and a good active walk, and remember, short is sweet in terms of your individual show :D
In temrms of the pelham, if she does go lovely in the snaffle-(i mean, in an outline, no headthrowing-a bit like my mare was) there wont be any real need atm, and if she does show prmise, then you can have go in a pelham or double etc :)

However, it did make a big difference to me, but remeber with a pelham, it will always look smarter with plain reins-no rubber ect :)

Sorry if this all a bit long winded, but these are some mistakes I made all the way back at my first show :O :D

How big is she? Was there a height maximum on the schedule for small riding horse?
Other than that, shes in good weight (ideally a little more muscle), and she seems a good riding horse sort :)

Have fun, get her shining, bit of hoof oil, baby oil around the eyes, trim her tail and she'll be fine :D
Good Luck!

Thanks :D!!

I have a shirt and tie on in the pics. I have a sparklie browband but its my other horses and is black and silver (his colours) so i dont think it will suit a dark bay with mealy points???

She is 15.2hh and has a pop on her but will have to have a go with a skinny as never thought of that. She looks bigger as I am a tiny person at only 5ft lol

I am a novice to riding horse and havent taken her to a show so would we get away with saying novice riding horse???

Yep, definatley novice riding horse in that case, but be careful if you do intend to take her in a pelham, as sometimes the novice riding horse is only snaffle :)
Is the browband a velvet one with the little 'tiers' on each side? If it matches your tie, you might be better with it, as it is a little more 'correct' :D Have a try of it on her, and just see how she looks :)
Oooh, and a little tip someone on here told me, if you do get into this showing lark, and change your outfit, etc, rather than buy a new shirt, stick a cheap yellow duster in with your whites shirt, and Voila! A canary shirt :D
Have lots of fun!

Don't know if it was me that told Ellie that, but I do say (and do) that!

She looks a lovely sort of mare! :) Check the schedule/guidelines for the show with regards to bits in the novice riding horse class (yes you should be in novice!)

If you have a velvet browband, this is more correct! Even if you don't think it is the perfect one for her, it would be considered better as it is correct turn out. Unless it looks totally naff in which case stick to just plain tack! :)

white bits should be WHITE :) tail, put your arm under the top of her tail and it should be straight across approx 1inch below the hock....... (however this is a bit pinickity so dont be too concerned if you don't want to) However, top of hte tail should be pulled or plaited (pulled looks smarter) and the mane should be neatly plaited.

You should have either no numnah on, or a subtle almost invisible one that matches your tack (black tack on a dark bay horse is easy! black/dark brown numnah)

You should really have a pelham in, so maybe just school her in one, and see how she goes, if she doesnt accept it nicely, then maybe say ok, snaffle for this one and we will practice with pelham for next time (I am sure they will be leanient in a novice class..... but if others have pelhams in they will get better marks for turn out)

Its: Canary jods, black boots, brown gloves, brown cane, I cant remember jacket colour I think in riding horse its black show jacket (blue for hacks, tweed for everything else) but I am not 100% sure (sorry i do hunters and cobs! :) ) yellow/pale yellow/cream shirt (duster is great!) and a tie. Hair in a hairnet, neat bun and everything nice and shiny and clean!

Hoof oil, as ellie said baby oil round the eyes (not lathered just enough to give them a bit of shine!) tack immaculate and most importantly........

HAVE FUN! :)

She will be fine in working hunter as well! Looks like she has a good jump! But you have to do a clear round to get into the ridden showing bit of the class! You can use any bit (so snaffle will be fine) and you can wear boots for the jumping section if you use them, but they must be removed for hte ridden showing section and you have to keep the same bit for the ridden showing that you did for the jumping round

Hope this helps! :)
