Hi,

Boyed up by mini dressage last week & desperate to use my lorry as much as possible am planning on taking ginger menace to local riding club show on Sunday to do the veteran showing class.

It's the last show of the year so don't want to fork out for all the correct stuff as it might not go well, so hoping some lovely folks might be able to give me an idea of what of the kit I have I should use, & what would be correct, just incase ;)

So, horse is 15hh welsh x TB, chestnut (she's about 18/9 years old) she has brown tack, micklem multi-bridle with loose ring snaffle and rubber reins & brown WRC event saddle (she is an odd shape & this was only saddle that would fit her). She has a brown aerborn girth & have the choice of white or brown saddle cloth?

I have either a brown or blue hacking jacket or a blue show jacket? White shirt and either blue or pink (!) tie, but could find another colour? I have a cream stock if stocks are worn?

Cream jodhs or cream breeches with suede effect seat (dublin)?

The only whip I have is a dressage whip, is this ok? I might me able to borrow a crop but would have to buy a show cane?

My hat is a black velvet one with cream harness.

I have either brown boots & chaps or long black boots?

Was going to plait her mane, but have let her tail grow out so was thinking I need to pull it?

She is getting a bit wooly but am I right in thinking its best not to clip her before the class & leave her woolly? Is is still super shiny tho :)

Any ideas of what we will have to do in the class??

Please be nice, I am going in for the experience & have no expectations of carrying off frillys, but obviously I don't want to offend anyone by turning up in totally the wrong gear !

Hob nobs & tea to all :D

Most of that will be fine for a local show.
A saddle cloth will not really look great, they cover too much of the horse so a numnah if you can get one or nothing would be better.
Shirt and tie, whichever one you like best, not a stock. Hacking jacket again either. Long black boots.
She would probably look smarter with her tail plaited, or just pull a little if you need to to tidy it up and bandage to hold its shape . There is no need to clip, her coat will look better as it is.
If you dont need to carry a whip go without.

For the show you will probably walk, trot and canter together, then get pulled in to line, then do a simple individual show to show her in all three paces, include a canter figure of eight and a nice halt and salute in front of the judge to finish.

Thanks be positive *passes hobnobs* :D the only numnah I have is a cream sheepskin one, would that be ok or too bulky?

Sadly I think I need the whip, would borrowing a small crop be better?

Horse can be unlevel on circles, would a triangle off trot away from judge, canter along in front of judge the trot to walk then halt in front of judge be ok?

Also are cream gloves ok? :D

Hi

Black gloves, long black boots, brown hacking jacket with tie, not stock, either a cane or nothing, either brown nuumnah (saddle shaped) or nothing.

If you can see a lot of the Sec D in her, leave her mane and tail as they are. If there's more of the TB look about her, better either plaited or neatly pulled.

You can tailor your show to suit your horse, but keep it simple and show walk trot and canter on both reins.

Don't stress, have fun and let us know how you got on. Good luck :)

A sheepskin will be fine, cream gloves ok, or ideally brown but never black.
Carry your schooling whip, it really should not make much difference to how you are judged.

Do a show that suits your horse but try to show canter on both reins, use as much of the available space if the ring is small to show her at her best.

what your show rules, some have one that says no whips over a certain length and schooling whip will probably exceed it! borrow a brown crop or something plain.

Basically no numnah/saddlecloth, tie not a stock, long black boots no chaps and plaited. You will walk, trot and canter as a group on both reins then you will do an indivdual which is again walk trot and canter on each rein and I usually show a few strides of gallop up the long side. Hope this helps and good luck :)

Thanks folks, think will try & find brown gloves & go with brown hacking jacket, black boots & tie :) will borrow a shorter crop too just in case :)

I usually ride with a seat saver (brown) & pony has a thin prolite under her saddle, am guessing both of these are no-no's? :)

One thing to remember - if your class is being run under VHS rules, you are not allowed to gallop. If it's a local show it probably isn't, but worth checking out anyway.

If the prolite is just the pad (and not all in one with the saddle cloth), they aren't easy to see anyway are they? if the horse needs it, I would leave it on.

Not sure about the seat saver - I've never seen one in a show class, so might be better without it if you can?

Thanks folks, seat saver off it is! Will try dead sheep under saddle tomoz as if she wears that she won't need the prolite :)

Chunkie, not sure if is run under VHS rules, but I think it's a Royal London (?) Qualifier. Will see what others do then before gallopies then :D
