Showing people - ruling please

Hi
I was at a show today (unaffiliated but with an 'alleged panel judge' turned out it was untrue!) and in the ridden M&M mixed class a Sec D won the class, but the whole way around had it's tongue hanging out of the side of it's mouth and flopping around.
Had a rugby pelham in it's mouth.
Is this deemed ok in the showing world?

I know of a lot of horses that hang their tongues out. It doesn't affect their way of going, in some cases it could help their breathing if they have big thick tongues and whilst there are no rules against it it is not the prettiest picture. At the end of the day it is down to the judge to either place it or not if they deem it a problem or not.

Oh wow. Poor horse. I saw a horse in a dressage test with its tongue hanging out to one side and the flash done up horribly tightly. The judge commented on the tight flash to me (as the writer) - she didn't like the flash but couldn't mark them down for it as it was within the rules. In the movements where the tongue was towards the judge (it was out for the whole test) she marked them down for it but when the tongue was facing away (as in on the opposite rein) she couldn't penalise them as she said - you have to give them the benefit of the doubt. It's very unlikely but the horse could in theory have put its tongue back in for that bit.

I have to say, loose cavesson noseband, so nothing tight and tonge VERY pink and not bothering him.....he just had it hanging out!!
I knew about the 'dressage' thing but did not know if it crossed over to showing.

I know of a few horses that do this.

Some out of habit (I suppose similar to people sticking their tongue out in concentration) ..... and some do it because it represents evasion of the contact and uneven rider aids.
