Hi,

Am after a bit of advice please. Am taking my youngster to his first ever show on Sunday, and wondered what classes I could/should take him in. Only doing in hand, and going purely for the experience.

A couple of pics taken tonight.

Thanks in advance.

He looks fab! He isn't skinny at all, just long.
How about native/part bred, does show have those? I think definately coloureds if roans are allowed.
Hopefully 'pony judge would most like to take home'!!

Am glad you've seen this!

His hips stick out a little bit, but I think that is really lack of overall muscle. It is improving now he is working though. I have been thinking of coloureds, but just seems odd to me having Dolly.

If he behaves and is his normal cheeky but kind self, everyone will want to take him home :D

Also, plaited or unplaited? Have thinned his mane a bit, and attacked it with the solo comb last weekend in preparation.

Coloured, handsome horse, best mane & tail, any kind of novelty class, really will give him experience of being in the ring. Can you find a child to do Fancy Dress with him? Unless you feel like dressing up yourself?

What is his breeding? If he's more native than not, I'd leave his mane & tail natural.

A part bred should be pulled/plaitted, he's not heavy or hairy enough to be considered a traditional type. Classes- part bred, any breed 4+, in hand pony/horse, and a coloured class if roan is allowed... But I was judging last weekend, and the coloured included palimino and spotteds! It was a sod to judge, I had everything forward from mini Shetlands to riding horses, with three palimino section A's in for good measure. :D

Have you got a copy of the class list? If you post it, it'll be easier to direct you to classes x

I would say 4 and 10 as well. Also, there might be quite a lag between them so if he is naughty he has time to get tired and if he is good he can have a rest!!
