I've entered a in hand coloured and ridden class this weekend. What should I wear for the in hand? I was thinking navy blue trousers and blue hacking jacket and then put on my jods and long boots for the ridden. Could I get away with wearing my jods and long boots for the in hand and if so should I wear my hat?
 
Hi, Yeh, you can wear jods and long boots for in hand. We do in hand with our coloured and thats what I wear. I wear my hat too, but I've seen people with various, some people opt for hats, others do no hat or another form of hat.
 
For in-hand you should wear trousers and jody boots and not jods.If your coloured has white legs then wear dark trousers eg navy and if he has dark coloured legs wear cream/fawn.
 
Jods and long boots arent suitable attire for In hand. as spottybottys said.

What type is your horse?

I show my traditional in a tweed jacket with dark trousers (he has white legs). Shirt and tie, suitable short boots. I have dark brown gloves and show cane. I either wear a trilby or a brown beagler depending on the weather.

Hair should be neat and tidy - preferably in a bun and netted.

Some people, particularly those with welshies or if it is very hot, swap the jacket for a smart waist coat.

Finally use some thin elastic to hold the number on, far smart than the plastic string they give you.

This is one of my turnouts - I like to vary them from time to time.

Attire In-hand
Smart jacket and trousers (cords, jodhpurs, slacks); where a class is specifically for Sporthorse/Warmblood animals it is anticipated exhibitors show in white top and trousers, white trainers.
Shirt and tie.
Hat or cap
Gloves
Suitable footwear, e.g jodhpur boots or walking shoes, etc
Attire Ridden classes
Hacking/tweed jacket or blue oe black show jacket
Shirt and tie oe stock as appropriate
Breeches or Jodhpurs in canary or beige
Brown or black jodhpur boots for juniors; or long black riding boots for adult riders.
Gloves
Hair net, or long hair tied back
Show cane (a plain leather, whangee or covered cane) or a whip not exceeding 76cms in length (30")
Riding hat or skull cap

I can't get any pics of him to post. Anyway I am going to wear navy trousers and blue hacking jacket. Haven't realy got a suitable hat to wear - would my riding hat be ok with a navy cover?
 
You should be fine with your riding hat - is this local or higher level showing.

Local you can get away with more - though it is getting far more competative and higher standards that it was 10 years ago.

Basically, black is wrong - hat, gloves or jacket for showing when ridden, navy is more correct - hats, navy is most common but you also do see grey, brown and green to match the tweeds. For some reason blue tweed seems not to be the done thing at high level.
