A quick little question I hope someone can answer. Going to a local unaffiliated show next week and there is a class for Ridden Sports Horse. If there is no indication of “snaffle only” on the schedule can a Pelham be used as with any other showing class?

TIA

Sports horse classes are normally snaffle bridle only so I would go with that if you can. If it doesnt state that on schedule and you are happier/safer in a pelham, then stick with that.

Just expect to be put down by the judge if an equally nice horse in a snaffle is there. I judged a novice horse class last year, and a "pro" brought in a very nice horse in a double. She didn't even ride on the curb so I don't know why she bothered, but I put her down because of it, as all the others went nicely in snaffles. She tried the " it doesn't say anything in the rules" gambit, but she should have known better.

It’s quite obvious to many that a novice should be in a snaffle though, and actually if it doesn’t say in the schedule then she did nothing wrong.you wouldn’t often see a 4 year old hunter in a snaffle at county level.
There aren’t many sports horse classes so that information isn’t as obvious. If the rules don’t state which bridle and as this is local, safety is more important. She’s better off in a Pelham in control than a snaffle tanking around the place.
