I WANT a new saddle (as the Royal looms) can anyone recommend a good showing saddle for the extra wide Donkey? Can I also use a good one for stressage? I don't want to spend a fortune (as usual!!) advice gratefully received!

I brought the Ideal Ramsay earlier in the year and I absolutely love it...

I wanted a dressage saddle as I already had a made-to-measure showing saddle (I have a very wide flat backed Arab!). But unfortunately, his shoulders are too large and the saddler couldn't find anything to fit.

I rode in the Ramsay and haven't looked back since.... I use it for showing, dressage and hacking - have even jumped in it (only 2'6).

My boy is wider than the x-wide fitting of all the other saddles we tried, but strangely enough a Wide off the peg Ramsay fits him perfectly.

Here's a link if you want to have a look - I paid £795 for mine, but that was with fitting/travelling cost etc.... think you can get them for about £750 from some places

I tried a jeffries stamford on Meg, and it was lush. Just too small!

How about the Derby House Samber? I use it for WH and dressage on Chloe, and it fits her really well, and is comfortable. £600 new I think.

We use the Ideal Ramsays on all our horses (and also do dressage in them as well). Look out for second hand ones although they do hold their price very well. We should have tried some on her at camp as there were lots of Ideal saddles around that you could have tried.

Arrrrrrrrrrrr you naughty girlie.....

So going to do a bit of stressage are we, might have to join you.

I've got a Matlock Saddlery WH saddle that I use for showing and WH and hope will use for stressage, but unfortunately they have been taken over by Derby House so not sure if they still do own brands, might be worth giving them a call.... If not give HoofAloof a call and see what they have in, can I tempt you into doing a little Side Saddle, have a rather nice saddle at home doing nothing...

I'm having a lesson on Saturday from a stressage instructor, so you never know, I do have the date on my calendar!!

I got an ideal ramsey too!! Its a close comfort saddle - and oh my lord it is the most comfy saddle i have ever ridden in, my stubben, jeffries and charles mountford do not compare!

And it surprising holds you in place too when they have a lark about!

my cob is an xwide, and it cost me £740.00 and it was made to measure as he has a short back and we had the side panels made slightly longer.
