With the crappy weather and consequently crappy ground conditions I'm contemplating studding Bobbles for showing..

Opinions? He's jumping 1-1.10m (90-1m spread) sometimes on a surface (quality variable!!) sometimes on grass....

Last year we only studded for hard ground...

I use rear studs when showing on very hard or very slippery conditions. I hate the horse having to feel its way around a course - bad enough having to do the fences without sliding round corners!

I stud for showing, both front and rear and 2 in each shoe. Type of stud depends on the ground. If I'm just showing I use relatively small, blunt ones as I don't want him to catch himself especially in the gallop. It's a bit frustrating with my fellow in working hunter as he needs to be well studded for jumping phase and then he has to go into second phase with no boots on and gallop, he gives a good gallop and has nicked himself before.

i would if i were you. stud all round cause with the ground patchy in places at the mo you don't need him feeling bits of it and not other bits!

Stud holes it is...bugger, will have to buy new studs too - lost half of last seasons
