I am looking at the start of the new showing season to start entering my dark bay 6 year old 15.3 hh Hanoverian into some local shows. I havent done any showing before. What classes would I be eligible for?

What tack and rider attire would I need for classes such as:
- Riding Horse
- Best Turned Out

At the moment I only have black tack do I need brown?

Navy jacket/ black jacket?

What type of saddle pad/ Numnah?

Coloured brow band or leather?

Should I have double reins?

What colour girth?

Thank you

Plenty of time before next season to start getting all you require:)
You really need to find out what class she will fit in to, at 15.3 she is going to be rather small in large riding horse and you really should get an accurate height or even a proper JMB measurement done so if you want to do some bigger shows you can, if she measures under 158 cm, just over 15.2, then do small riding horse or possibly small hunters depending on her type, it will give you more options.

A good quality, fairly straight cut, brown saddle will be a good investment.
A brown bridle, the correct width to enhance her head with a velvet browband for RH or plain for hunters. If you can get her going well in either a double or pelham that will be preferred for open classes, in novice they can wear a snaffle.
Numnahs should be discrete and blend in with the saddle, a smart leather girth is ideal.

For you it is a tweed jacket for either class, with navy velvet hat, shirt and tie, brown leather gloves, long boots and spurs.

Arghhhhh this is such a minefield! I was looking at a friends pictures from Equifest and she wore navy jacket and hat with brown gloves and beige jods for her classes with red tie to match her horses browband. Her horse is the same height at mine and of similar fine build but im not 100 percent what classes she did other than home produced hack.... ?

how come i would be tweed jacket rather than a navy and also what is the difference between a hack class and for example, a riding horse class?

Hacks are finer than RH, usually of tb type, they are expected to be impeccably schooled and do a show without galloping, other than that the classes are much the same.
If showing as a hack the rider will wear navy, tweed is worn for all other show classes, black should not be worn at all by a lady.

A photo may help to advise which class you should do but the best thing is to get someone experienced to see her in the flesh, in my view you will get more opportunities to compete if she is RH, most shows will have a class but not so many will have a hack class.
I have just seen your other post, with photo, she looks to me a really good type of small RH, it would be good if she measured under 158 and would be worth trying.

we went like this, and lots of other peeps were wearing the same. I know the correct thing is brown tack, tweed jacket, navy hat, canary-ish jods . There is a thread on here (can't find it atm) where a showing lady explains it all. Ours was a local show. :)
