I have a 13.1hh chestnut gelding and im am taking him to his first show next weekend. he is a show pony breeding wise but he is not broken although very well handled in hand. im going to enter best turned out in hand and im looking for some tips to make him stand out for the judge! also would like to know what other classes he may be suitable for.

Make sure both you and him are turned out as good as you can.

Make sure the pony is always between you and the judge (in other words do not block the judges view of the pony by standing in the way)

Manners (both yours and the pony's) A nice smile and a friendly "good morning/afternoon" always helps. Answer any of the judges questions but don't force too much information onto them - they do not want the life history of the pony.

Practice trotting in hand. You want a nice free moving trot and try not to resrict his head too much.

Practice standing square.

Hoof oil - apply just before going into the ring.

Could go on forever!!!

Oh and most importantly - make sure you have fun!!!

Black hoof paint always looks nice
