Hey everyone, just a quick question with regards to showing welsh D's- I normally show nf's, so their manes are pulled to be neat, but not too short etc, but how would I have a D's mane? Atm it is very long! Also, what would I do re. Clipping so I avoid lines as much as possible, as he has feather so I can't really do a full clip? Any ideas would be great!
This is him :)

Yes pull the mane. Length depends on how cresty his neck is, a bigger neck can carry off a longer mane. Generally 6/7 inches is a good length

As for clipping, a hunter clip is fine with Welshies. I used to leave half a face and legs on :)

Do a full clip but leave legs on. What i did on my sec ds that show. Id also shorten his mane he doesnt look to be overly cresty so a shorter mane will help him. Play around see what length suits him. Hair grows back :)

Very tricky! some judges especially those who are real welsh sec D experts may not like too much work on the main points, I would strongly advise getting advise from a specialist judge/breeder. Where in the UK are you?

All the above I agree with....
Just wanted to say lovely horse you should do well in showing classes, are you showing in hand or ridden ?
I am growing my section D's mane out at the moment I am going to go against the grain and have a full hairy mane and tail just tidied up, but as long as i can get it to grow.
My boy can take it he has a massive neck :O)

Wow! Now he is stunning, I definitely see how the shorter mane shows off the neck! Thankyou so much, though it has made me worry as my boy is only a gelding, and against the likes of that we have no chance ha, we can try :) thanks again!
