Hi everyone.
I plan on going to my first ever ridden and in hand show at the end of May.
I am looking for tips/tricks for when I arrive at the show? What do I do in the show ring? What will the judge ask etc.
Also how to keep pony occupied in between classes (could be 3 hours)
She is a Welsh D in the M&M flat classes
Thank you

Judge usually asks age sometimes what you do with them but not all. Some won’t even speak to you other than to say what they expect as a show.

I like a Lycra hood for the mane to keep it all on the correct side and take it off 15mins before I head to the warm up.

Take the boots/bandages off any leg white bits before you go in warm up if warm up is dry if not leave them on, if tail is white I leave tail bandage on until warm up if not then won’t matter.

White I hand halters are preferable, get one to suit their head. If not then snaffle bridle if entering novice, double or Pelham if entering open ridden.

Brown tack preferable but up to you. Tweed shirt and tie for yourself. Appropriate jodhs for ridden and colour contrasting trousers for in hand. Wear suitable running shoes. I wear plain black football boots for better grip and comfort in hand.

as above, in between classes depends on the set up - do you have your own transport? waiting for someone to come back to collect you or hacking there?

I try to put them back on the box and allow them some downtime, but my welshie is also quite happy with us sitting in camping chairs whilst she eats the grass around us, which is what we opt for when we have a wait but it’s not worth going back to the car park!
